Well, after fiddling with fbguard and looking at the firebird.log
file in /opt/firebird, I see a glimmer of hope. I can start
fb_smp_server which I believe to be SuperClassic by simply entering
$ fbguard
In the /etc/xinetd.d directory, I change the server line to
fb_smp_server from fb_inet_server. Now, by typing command
$ ps -ef | grep fb
, I see the process running and I'm able to connect to a database
remotely.
Somewhere, I'm sure, the firebird server can be taught to start up
automatically. Or, maybe it does -- I haven't tried a reboot.
But, I'd still like more detail on the install options.
