Thanks a lot for the detailed reply. It's good to know that Firebird
doesn't give a problem when there are large no of columns; this is what
we wanted to hear.

Anyway, we have decided not to do any change in the existing design,
for the time being. I didn't give too much details. I didn't mention
that the concerned table itself is a detailed table of a Master table,
so I don't want to further split it. When we complete the conversion
work, we will try with a larger table with more columns. To us, they
are distinct values for each staff.
