Hi, You might be interested to know about our use of Firebird v1.5
for a live system within the UK Police force.
The company I work for - Encircle Solutions Ltd - provides Activity
Based Costing solutions to the UK public sector - written in AJAX,
Java & XSLT.
We usually recommend Oracle or MSSQL Server for our applications
database back end but decided to give Firebird a chance on our
latests customer's site.
We were keen to do this because a. its free b. very lightweight and
c. been performing very well on our development machines.
The system installed at a site in the U.K Police force has been
running for over 3 months now with the database size currently
running at just over half a gig.
We've had absolutely no problems with Firebird and certainly will be
recommending it for future installations.
We've had a several peers saying were mad not to be using Postgres -
but in my experience its very heavyweight and bloated.
Plus as a company that uses Windows in production to reduce TCO -
Postgres sitting on top of Cygwin just doesn't cut it for me.
I'd just like to say a big thanks to the Firebird team for such an
excellent product. Keep up the good work - the user base is growing.
regards
