Hi,
I have looked at that.
Running with 75 at moment, probably move to minimum/65 and up page size to
8192. Server works well with your suggestion.
I think the answer really is more ram. Top reports about 60mb average per
connection, only 30 connections typically work the server hard at any time.
they push 140mb per connection. That or rewrite software :-(
Plus Sunday morning kick everyone off and exclusive sweep once a month to
cleanse old transactions, running non exlusive does not do the job. Hence
the desire to learn more about ending connections politely.
Though I will look into ad-hoc dropping and recreating indexes. Did it with
MS/SQL and Oracle once in a while, I think we did it with ib 4.2 years ago.
If I had time I would make a be-spoke firebird, with higher lock-hash count,
hash chains below 5 have on other database's engines made big improvements.
It has so far on fb 1.5 too.
