I'm having problem connecting to databases using aliases on a new Windows
Vista (Ultimate) machine with Firebird 2.03 (Superserver).
In aliases.conf I have the Line: mydb = d:\databaser\firebird\mydb.fdb
Trying to connect with the connection string localhost:mydb or
127.0.0.1:mydb result in error:

Unsuccessful execution...
I/O error for file "mydb".
Error while trying to open file.
Can't find referenced file.
.

Connecting with connection string: mydb works, indicating that the server
is reading aliases.conf.
Connecting with: d:\databaser\firebird\mydb.fdb or
localhost:d:\databaser\firebird\mydb.fdb or
127.0.0.1:d:\databaser\firebird\mydb.fdb all works fine.

What is wrong ?
