No, it's not strange. The command window in Windows is not DOS. It
is a shell that runs in the user's application space - in the case of
a vmware client, it would be a shell in the guest client's space.

It is a known issue that has already been reported in the tracker,
see http://tracker.firebirdsql.org/browse/CORE-1109 and is (so far)
an unresolved issue.
