I got my subscription to the devel list working again and I have posted this issue with more details there. The new subject on the devel list:

"Two uininitialized variables cause a crash in alice.cpp / common_main"

could you review that post and let me know what you think.
The calling code can be downloaded at

but I'm afraid it isn't of much use because the crash occurs only on some platforms. The crash seems to be due to uninitialized variables in FB code so your request for a reproducible test case is not easy to fulfill...
