This is unfortunate, it means the business logic tier cannot reside in the same
physical server as the data storage tier. The slow tcp internet link become the
bottlenect and also making it a fat-client application. But I guess your php
application is an exception.

I only had experience in odbc api and embedded sql, but both of them seems to
fade out. ;-(
