It sounds like Firebird may be more then you need. Maybe Dbase,
Paradox, or Access might be more your speed. They are lite weight DB
that come with a built in front end development tool. Large companies
run mission critical application based on FB as a back end.
Often, non DB people confuse Database with DB + Programming tool through
lack of experience. If you want to use a more sophisticated database
like Firebird, there are drivers that you use with development tools
like VS 2005, Delphi, Java, etc. Of course this means you will need to
learn a lot more about programming and databases (then you currently
seem to have an understanding of).
