We are starting to work with some larger Firebird database designs (ie.
over 200 tables) and use stored procedures for pretty much all reading &
writing to the database. I'm most comfortable doing data modeling with
CASE tools and currently use CaseStudio with Firebird for initial design.
It works very well.
There is a problem, however, once development of our systems begin and
afterwards. CaseStudio is great for creating the scripts for the DDL that
is initially run to create the database. However as additional columns
are identified for the physical implementation of the database, it doesn't
have decent facilities to make quick changes to the database design,
without doing complete rebuilding of the database and forcing us to reload
all of our test data.
In addition, it doesn't have any rich editors that can assist us in stored
procedure development. For this, we are using EMS IBManager which works
well.
My problem is that using both of these tools is starting to be very
difficult. In order to create the tables, implement referential
integrity, etc. CASE tools such as CaseStudio work great. But in order to
add stored procedures, they offer no editors that I can use for this. The
ideal world for me would be one tool that can handle graphical data
modeling (logial & physical) with automatic referential integrity
handling, etc., a decent stored procedure editor (ideally that can allow
for debugging of stored procedures during development), and all of this in
the one tool.
Is there anything out there that does this? What are other developers
using for this sort of thing?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Regards,
Myles
