more to do with some kind of index of intervening transactions from the
start to finish of the said transaction. If, from the start of a
transaction, many other transactions are started before the said trans is
committed then this is a long trans. If a trans is started on a single user
system running one trans at a time, then the trans by nature is "short" even
though it may last 30 minutes or longer.
