Subject Migrating from IB 5
Author Jonathan Neve
Hi all,

We have several applications, including one very large one, which still
run on IB 5.0 (and most of our other servers run IB 6.0).

Now, I'd love to be able to migrate to the newer versions of FireBird so
as to take advantage of the new features, but in the case of huge legacy
applications like this, breaking the existing database or code is simply
not an option; and besides, stability and reliability are in such a case
FAR more important than speed or features, which is why we have been so
conservative in our upgrades. (To give you an idea of what we're talking
about here, our biggest project has about 500 to 600 forms and 2 or 300
reports, over 800 units in all.)

My question therefore is:

1) What would be the main elements that would need upgrading (I am
familiar with upgrading to IB 6, so I mainly mean, beyond 6.0) ?
2) What (if any) incompatibilities could arise, in terms of SQL (I'm not
intending to use dialect 3, as that would require changes far too massive) ?

Thanks!
