The problem was that the SuSE 10 install didn't automatically turn on
DMA access for the drive. We checked it at the suggestion of another
user and that fixed it.
For the file system, we're probably going to use XFS, mostly because
it's tuned more towards large files, and ReiserFS is tuned to many small
ones.

Hi Rick,

We are using Firebird C/S on Suse 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3 in conjunction with
the Reiserfs. We first encountered slowness during the initial
connection server when connecting from Windows XP clients. You can turn
off the Windows XP firewall or add the IP addresses to the /etc/hosts
file on linux.
As far as the performance is concerned. There was no slowdown at all as
a result of the Reiserfs.
