I personally prefer to compile from source, thus running Gentoo. Just
compiled and installed Fb SS 1.5.3, on a AMD64. It screams, and is a
true 64bit env.
However I think the autogen.sh output says 64bit i/o disabled? When it
should not be disabled since compiled in a pure 64bit env?
Other than that weirdness it's great. Only downfall with the other
platforms is for some reason Fb is not releasing 64bit linux binaries
anymore?

So even if on RedHat or SUSE, you are still going to have to compile and
install Fb yourself. Unless you find a third party rpm.
