Subject Classic Server on Win2003 Standard (dead client connections)
Author nils.boedeker.support@t-online.de
Hi,

we use

1.5.2.4731 Classic

on an smp hyperthreading system with 2GB Ram and 4 (2 nativ) processors
do drive our websystem (ISAPI/Delphi
).

We have a lot of traffice the database ist in the main time in heavy
use.

We attache 12 Databases, the biggest is 5 GB (with a lot of blob space).

2 Month ago we change from superserver to classicserver and notice 2
strange
things.

---

a) After some time of working (1-2 Days) we notice that some

If we stop all connections there are allready some fb_inet_server.exe
processes (more then the main process). Also if I stop the main service
there are still some fb_inet_server.exe processes there who never
disappear.

What are this processes?
Are this processes dead clients connections?
Is there any server or function das kills this dead clients connections
automatically?

---

b) I make a database stat I saw in our main database a growing distance
between the "Oldest active" and the "Next transaction". Same behave as
if there are some transactions are lost or never closed. Gfix -l or -s
don't remove this transactions. Only gfix -m (mend) remove them.

The strange thing is that I don't have any problems like that if I use
the superserver. Can this caused by the don't disappearing
b_inet_server.exe processes (see a)?

---

I use the default configuration in firebird.conf. I only change the
following values because in main time we have a lot of database
connections.

LockMemSize = 10485760
LockSemCount = 256

---

Any Ideas?

with best regards from bremen
