It looks like you don't have local loopack interface, so when you don't
have ethernet network - you don't have any network at all.

I'm not sure about Windows, but on Linux you would have to do something
like "ifconfig lo up" to enable it.

Try the: "ping 127.0.0.1" command (on any platform) and see what
happens. Perhaps it will be enough to add "localhost" to your hosts file.
