SQLITE is designed to run in minimal memory - less than we had on the
PDP-ll in 1978. If that's what you want and you can live with the
concurrency and database size restrictions, go for it. We're not going
to compete in memory usage or database size given the current cost of
memory and disk space.

Different applications have different requirements. Different open
source databases target different markets.
