Thanks for this idea - BLOBDUMP showed some interesting results:

BLOBDUMP writes files exactly the size of the input file.
At the first glance, these files look truncated, anyway. Closer investigation
reveals that the contents of this file re-start from the very beginning at
offset 0x7fff.

This is starting to look really weird. I'll be offline for the rest of the
day, but I think I'll be using the train voyage and try to track down the
culprit...

Unfortunately, I can't even discuss this problem on the qt-interes mailing
list as their mailing list manager ist broken - I can read, but not post to
this list :-(
