You also need to look at the feature set for Firebird vs. MySQL.
MySQL operates more or less like an SQL interface to a flat file
backend. Some of the very things that define what a relational database
are violated by this piece of software.
This isn't just a praise of firebird... it is more or less the
affirmation that MySQL is by far your worst choice if you ever actually
care.
