Subject Service won't start (Win2K Server)
Author Tim Burgan
Hello,

I had Firebird 1.5 running perfectly on my Windows 2000 Server in 'Super
Server' mode.

Yesterday I noticed that it must have crashed. The services wouldn't
automatically start and they wouldn't manually start either. So I
uninstalled and reinstalled.

Now I've reinstalled, the services still don't start automatically, and
when I try to start them manually I still get the following errors:

Could not start the Firebird Server - DefaultInstance on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request
in a timely fashion.

Could not start the Firebird Guardian - DefaultInstance service on Local
Computer.
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

When I try to change the default password (as outlines in the Quick
Reference) by running:
gsec -user sysdba -password masterkey

I get the following error:

unavailable database
can't format message 18:15 -- message file c:\Program
Files\Firebird\Firebird_1_5\bin\firebird.msg not found

Why is all this suddenly occurring?
What can I do to fix it.. are there are resources available that may
explain this?

Thanks

Tim
