Subject Firebird 1.5.2 client on Win 2000
Author Tony Masefield
Hi all,

Have tried to run an app on a Win 200 machine connected to the same
LAN as my devlopment laptop. Although the app runs OK on the laptop,
it won't run on the Win 2000 PC. As a newbie to firebird I have
installed on the Win 2000 machine the app plus fbclient plus
msvcp60.dll in the same directory and have cloned the GDS32.dll into
Windows/System32.
This particluar app was built with FIBP trial version and, when run
on the Win 2000 PC one gets the "thanks for evaluating FIBP"
followed by the MS "Can't run this program report error" screen
(no 'debug' button) then nothing.
Any idea what can be wrong?
Have checked the properties of the GDS32 file and it indicates that
it is the 'firebird' version.
As a last resort, tried installing the superserver on the target
(Win 2000) PC and stopping the (local) server. Still get same
problem.
Is there something specific about Win 2000 client installation I
should know?

BTW, the IBPheonix site GSTG talks about a file called FB32.dll
being necessary for the client but cannot find this file (now
fbclient.dll?).

Having done a 'Google' search for Firebird client installations the
information is somewhat thin (understatement?). Most of the info I
gleaned was from the IB Expert site (via Google) and it's difficult
to ascertain what files are necessary on the client (there is some
conflicting information) and whether or not any registry keys are
necessary (which does not appear to be the case).
Has no-one yet come up with a client installation binary?

Regards,
