there is "anecdotal evidence" that at times Firebird does not react
well to some errors thrown by the file system: someone reports that
even copying a database while it is in use may damage *the source
file*.
There is no definitive answer to this, but in the meantime -
just in case - I'd refrain from copying live databases (which is
pointless anyway), defragment the disk containing a live database or
throwing the machine that hosts a live database out the window.
