There has been a lot of talk about Firebird 2 no longer providing legacy
support for
the gds32.dll, which means that developers planning to use it , who
currently use the
IBX components that are provided with Delphi are considering switching
to another set of components.
My questions are:
1. Do any other component suites available also require the legacy gds32.dll
or all they
all independent of this requirement?
2. Is it possible for to patch the firebird dll for version 2 and get it
working with IBX ?
Has anybody tried this?
Would it be techically incorrect or dangerous to attempt to do this?
3. Are there new features in Firebird 2 which will require the software
developers of
IBO, FIBPlus etc to upgrade their components to take full advantage of?
4. Is there any point continuing to use IBX or should developers spend some
serious
time planning to switch components in anticipation of Firebird 2?
Thanks
Graeme Edwards
