If you mean by simply doing a straight file copy, then there is always
the risk of causing a database corruption.

With Firebird 2.0, there's a new backup utility called NBACKUP that
will be faster than GBAK and will provide a backup file that can be
used as a database. At the moment don't ask when will Firebird 2.0
will be officially released, it's still in Alpha.
