Thanks Peter,
Can you give me an example of how you use gbak in this case? I can't see how
I could specify the
backup location without knowing the path that the alias refers to as well,
or at least another local
path on the server to make the backup file.

Gbak does actually work on aliases , this is the way I use it in my
systems.
