Helen, I think that is not the problem because it's only one session (
me ) trying to connect to the db rite now. Anyway my instances is set
to 300. my firebird.log gives me this:-

[root@iedb3 firebird]# tail -f firebird.log

iedb3 Thu Apr 21 11:56:11 2005
SERVER/process_packet: broken port, server exiting

iedb3 Thu Apr 21 11:57:53 2005
INET/inet_error: send errno = 104

iedb3 Thu Apr 21 11:57:53 2005
SERVER/process_packet: broken port, server exiting

What I have done so far:-
1. restart the service
2. reboot the server
