OK Martijn (and Si) I'm wrong - rwxrwxrwx obviously doesn't do it. I
tried again with the owner and group both = 'firebird' and there is no
difference.

The whole samba_share is mounted where I can see it and write to it from
a Windows XP machine on the LAN.

I'm up a gum tree!
