Sorry to be slow getting back - I was away for a while installing a new box.
In Firebird language, how does one "quiesce" the database? Is this a job
for gfix, if so could someone give an example of a shell script that would
do the job. I would be concerned if the database is offline that I should
not have a user who submits a web page get back an "internal server error"
and not know to try re-submitting.
On the other hand, I gather from reading the lots of other replies and
discussion (thanks folks) that the database itself is not put at risk by
the snapshot operation, it is just that the snapshot that it backed up
might with small probability be corrupt. This is not a problem if we use
gbak for the backup itself, the backup copy of the database would just be
useless (someone mentioned this, I think).
