With Win2k and Fb Superserver, the CPU affinity *must* be set to a single
CPU. With the Classic server there will be load-spreading benefits from
mutliple CPUs.

Firebird loves RAM.

Those are not firebird.conf defaults, they are database settings and they
are not defaults. The Buffers default for SS is 2048, for Classic it is
75. Knock the buffers back to 8K pages and, if you like, try increasing
the page size to 16K next time you restore from a backup..
