I have some new information. I tried on our testing pc to backup
then restore the database in question. Backup runs fine. When I try
to restore the new backup, it errors with the following:

gbak: ERROR: connection lost to database
gbak: Exiting before completion due to errors
gbak: ERROR: connection lost to database


Anybody?
