OK, you established that you have the right client. Next, just make
double-sure that there isn't a stray gds32.dll in the application path or
somewhere else in the user's path, just to put that one to bed.

I'm curious to know what this "randomly" thing means. Does it mean some
users can connect, while some can't? Or the same user can connect
sometimes and not others? Remote users can connect, but local users
can't? Or the first user can't connect?

What's the exact message and at what point does it occur?

What do you see in the Firebird.log?

Which model of the server is installed? Classic (fb_inet_server.exe) or
Superserver (fbserver.exe)? On what platform? If XP, what's the name of
the database?
