Subject Excel Query to firebird db using firebird ODBC driver
Author Jim Walsh
I'm working on a WinXP system.

I just downloaded and installed the Firebird ODBC driver for Windows,
version 1.2, dated 8/26/2004.

I used that driver to create an ODBC data source connecting to a
Firebird/Interbase database used by a data collection system that we
purchased.

To test this datasource, I used Excel...Import External Data...New data
query. This presents me with a dialog box from which I am to choose
tables/fields to include in the query. I am able to connect to the
datasource, and view the tables. However, when I click on the plus sign to
expand a table to view its fields, I receive the following error message:

", Dynamic SQL Error, SQL error code = -206, Column unknown,
FLD.RDB$FIELD_PRECISION, At line 1, Column 112."

I get this same error message when I attempt to view the fields of any of
the tables.

I have been able to use Mengoni's IBOConsole to view the tables and fields
of this database.

I would appreciate any help in the proper use of this ODBC driver. I would
assume that it should work with the Excel Query wizard. I am intending to
use it with my VFP-developed database system to access that same
Firebird/Interbase database.

Thanks,
Jim
