Anybody played with PostGIS?

I have the MapServer running, and can create maps from user supplied
data, but now I'm looking to linking the information with the database
in Firebird, and I keep falling into holes with PostGIS at the bottom.

Before I loose any more hair, anybody already playing in that area?
