I work at a software company that uses firebird as our database engine. We
have had customers that have been requesting help for linux users. We are
trying to install our software on Fedora to help them but have not been able
to get firebird to start.

Normally "rpm -i Firebird*.rmp" would suffice. You can check the
release notes for more details. You can also find detailed documentation
here: http://www.firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=guide

Anyway your post is somewhat vague. What is exactly the problem
you are facing?
