In current versions, as a native 64-bit system, no. The reason is that a
lot of conditional manipulation in the engine is required to store and move
data in the AMD64 environment and to provide an upgrade path for existing
databases. To do that requires a change in the On-Disk Structure (ODS)
that the database engine supports. We don't change the ODS
retrospectively, period.

The work has been done to implement this change to the ODS in Firebird
2. It now looks likely that we will hold back on the Fb 2 Beta release
briefly, in order to circulate and test experimental AMD64 builds, at least
for Linux. I say "looks likely" since the idea of folding in an
unannounced ODS change at this stage runs contrary to the project's release
policy and is being actively debated right now. So, be patient, please.
