Subject Re: [firebird-support] Re: Firebird and Mac OS X

I am using Firebird Classic on a dual processor G5 machine running os
10.4.x without too much difficulty. Is this a new machine (i.e. did it
come with 10.4 from the factory, as opposed to being upgraded from 10.3)?

Can you connect to a local database directly?

Note - I am using the Firebird 1.5.x package -- I have not compiled from
source. However, one of the big differences in 10.4 vs. 10.3 is that the
standard compiler is gcc version 4 and not gcc version 3. I have had
trouble compiling other things on OS X with gcc4 (namely, Oracle client
library related things!).

To change to gcc version to 3.3 instead of 4 do a:

sudo gcc_select 3.3 prior to compiling....

There is also a different way of starting things up if you are using the
Classic server (launchd vs. xinetd -- see a previous post I made about
this).
