I wonder if, when running the /etc/init.d/firebird script, you were making
your problem. That script sets a group of environment variables, including
the ISC_USER and ISC_PASSWORD variables. In my (multiple) copies of this
script, ISC_PASSWORD is set to the original generated SYSDBA password. I
see that you are using 'masterke' as your sysdba password.

You could try unsetting ISC_USER and ISC_PASSWORD. Then start again, this
time running fbmgr yourself, not the init.d script.
