We currently make use of a 3-tier architecture with firebird as the back end
database.

We make use of ASTA www.astatech.com. They should have lots of documantation
and examples to how it works.

We had client running with about 100 concurrent connections to the
middle-tier server without a problem(Asta claims lots more). Being from
Shouth Africa where our internet speed is poor we managed to run 10
connections over a telephone line for a test without the people really
noticing.

Our Database is about 2 Gig and 430 tables.
