Subject Re: [firebird-support] Running firebird over local network

Hi Stephen

The database file should only be visible to the Firebird server, why not set up an alias in
the aliases.conf file on your server instead of trying to use absolute mappings.

e..g mydb = c:\dblocation\myfirebirddtatbase.fdb

then on the client machine give the connection string

server:alias which would translate as server:mydb

I do this on all my apps then they need to know nothing about the database storage
location. In any case shared folders /mappings should never be used and wouldn't work
with firebird anyway.
