Yes, almost. You will need the proper client library (fbclient.dll) and
either to modify the name and location of the client IBO looks for (ask in
the IBO list about this) or to run the instclient.exe utility to have
Firebird rebuild the client as "gds32.dll" and write it to the system
directory.

Not essential to uninstall IB 6 for Fb 1.5 but, yes, you'll need to rename
the IB gds32.dll or hide it out of the system path.

It's the only way you should access Firebird or IB locally. Windows "local
connect" isn't for production use except with the embedded server.
