I've never seen this cause corruption. Maybe I'm just lucky. Anyway
I have little control over the systems in question. All I can do is
explain that the customer shouldn't do this and hope that they pay
attention.

If they were doing that the database really would be toast (at least
in IB 5.x). As part of the troubleshooting process I made quite sure
that there were not any connection string conflicts like the one that
you mention.
