All startup scripts in freebsd are stored in /usr/local/etc/rc.d
The active files must terminate with ".sh" otherwise the script will not be
executed

The firebird will be instaled in /usr/local/firebird

I am using Firebird 1.5 in FreeBSD 5.1 (I call my machine FreeBird!)

After compiling did you do a "make install"? This should install
Firebird somewhere in usr/local (I donĀ“t remember exactly now) and
also startup scripts that will start the Firebird server.
