Hey all,
I had a test database that I had inserted about 1 million rows into one
table and about 450K into another. I did this for testing an application
and database performance, etc. Anyway, I deleted the data from both of
these tables and wanted to back up and restore to force clean up. Backing
up took like 15 minutes on my AMD Athalon 2200 with 394 MB DDR Mem (my work
station) and I was wondering if this was probably due to garbage collection
because of the two large deletes that I had just performed.
I used IBExpert to perform the backup and it was like 10 minutes before the
backup window (the one that shows the gbak messages scrolling) could repaint
itself and start showing the gback messages that were coming in. I could
see the disk activity however. That is why I was wondering about the
garbage collection since I assumed that was performed first during a backup
if that flag is set.
Warm Regards,
Lee
