Subject RE: [firebird-support] power outages

Thanks for the replies ... I suspected that a database that could be guaranteed not to become corrupted because of a power outage may be hard (or, impossible) to find. [BTW, anybody know of any?] In my application, the data is not mission-critical (i.e. losing a few records would not be a disaster), but I am more concerned about the automated recovery process after a possible database corruption, especially because the instrument could be powered on / off several times a day without a proper software shutdown.

When you find a RDBMS that will shut down gracefully after a power loss,
please let us know, we also need that for mission critical clients that
won't buy U.P.S's

Still, there is a theorical potential for corruption isn't there? I know
I've had corruption before, due to having to kill the ibserver.exe process,
because of a recursive SP. I think the same thing could happen,
theoretically, if the machine gets shut off abruptly while a database write
is in progress.

Am I wrong?
