they are just trying to install a piece of software that happens to
have two parts (server/client). By trying to automate the install as
much as possible I can help to reduce my headaches alot.

If they're smart enough to have changed the system defaults then
usually they are smart enough to correctly configure the clients.
Most of the time, though, my clients don't even know what a database
is or that they're working with one.
Maybe I'll come up with a solution and post it here.
