Hi Uwe,
it seems like you are not amongst those that have been part of
Firebird since it's inception and have no knowledge of the history. In
1999, Borland decided to stop development of InterBase and only after
lots of pressure (those of us who used InterBase did not like the idea
of a slow death of our beloved database) did they decide to open the
source code. They had big enough problems with managing their own
staff working with InterBase (many of them quit and formed ib-phoenix)
and had no idea how to manage open source. Not too long after opening
the sources, they decided to close them again and continue developing
InterBase. The open source bit then became Firebird.
The chances of Borland including Firebird with anything they
distribute is extremely small, and if you are lucky they will answer
you with a list of reasons to switch to InterBase. More likely you
will be completely ignored.
Sorry,
Set
