I have had similar problems with Mandrake Linux, which is also a mainstream
Linux. I can install from RPM but can't compile from source. The version
of GPRE that comes with the RPM package doesn't include COBOL support, which
I would like to have for using Firebird with TinyCobol, which is why I was
trying to compile from source. I tried posting to this list about the
problem and also tried submitting a request that COBOL support be included
in the RPM packages but haven't received a response from either.
