Subject GBak. Memory use
Author Michael Vilhelmsen
Hi

This has been discussed before, but I don't think I ever got a good
answer.

Each morning I do a GBak Restore on my labtop from a nigthly backup.
This GBak restore is being processed in a commandline under Windows XP
Sp2.

When restoring, I never comes below 300 - 400 Mbs of physical memory
available.

Every once in a while I do the excact same restore, but now I do it on
our server.
When doing this, the server comes to the part, where it restores all
the index'
Here I have only between 1 and 10 K of available physical memory.

Both my labtop and the server has 1 Gb of RAM.
The server is running Windows 2000 server with a RAID system.

I can restore this DB on the labtop within 30 minuts.
On the server it takes between 60 and 90 minutes!
It really slows down, when creating all the index.....

Why is that ?

Regards

Michael
