Subject Shadow files on a network share
Author wobbleian
We've been playing with shadows located on a samba share to give us
off-machine realtime backups.

So far we've tried mixed attempts at making it not work including
downing the network, and deliberatly killing the boxes and have only
ever managed to force the same errors (eg some page errors that gfix is
happy dealing with) in both main database and shadows.

Performance wise we've seen approx 10% drop in speed using a shadow on
the same disk, and a further 5% for a shadow across the network.

Are we missing something in this realtime replication for free or is
shadowing across a network really viable?
