Even given the amount of data you have, I would recommend
creating an new blank dialect 3 database, and pumping the
data from the old one. I found quite a few niggles when
converting my small databases over, and those needed to be
fixed before I could get a 'clean' dialect 3 copy. You need
to have a play with an old copy obviously first.

Once you know what the problems are, THEN you may be able to
create a faster conversion, for the real system :)
